Yoga for me is so entwined with the flow of life. I am the child of Brenda, grandchild of Anna Doris & Loretta Hill. I identify as a child of the Great Migration, a Black American with mixed roots from the south, Queer, trauma informed, Birth Justice Activist and student of life. I began the journey of yoga when studying dance at The Harlem School of the Arts / Ailey School as a teenager. Yoga was the only elective where I felt my body, mind and spirit synch and soften continually. My practice is constantly shifting from slow and sensual to vigorous and sweaty depending on the seasons and my bodily cycle. I am a bigger bodied person and enjoy building space for others to feel at home in their physicality. After a year long internship at ANYA Yoga Studios in Manhattan, I completed my first 200 hr certification at a small studio in Bushwick called Jai Yoga Arts in 2016. I've done and continue to do much study around the body, mind and spirit connection in relation to Reproductive Justice. As a teacher, and the child of a teacher, I deeply feel that everyone's journey through life and movement is so varied. I like a holistic and grounded approach that encourages intuition to expand over time. The umbrella of my work includes full spectrum doula care, educator, yoga teacher, community herbalist, licensed massage therapist, and one of the founding members of the Northwest Reproductive Justice Collective. As a free spirited being, I join the BYMC with deep gratitude for the ways in which communities of Black & Indigenous folks practice rematriation with love and care throughout the lifespan as we connect deeply to the constant that is our mother, the land.
